International Data Corporation (IDC) does a consistently excellent job summarizing their IT predictions and then regularly critiquing them throughout the year.
In the following five minute video, Frank Gens, Senior VP and Chief Analyst, discusses the top10 predictions most impacting IT in 2010. In this five minute video clip he explains how the nascent growth of the Internet in 1973 parallels the growth of cloud computing today. He calls for cloud computing standards and the equivalent of a “state” engine that would enable applications to more effectively integrate with each other.
Bottom line: Forward-thinking CTOs and CIOs in governments globally have the potential to drastically reduce process and cost inefficiencies. It remains to be seen if the biggest and costliest impediment of all – which is resistance to change – will be eventually overcome by their efforts.

Bottom line: The goal of these webinars is often to recruit students for certificate and degree programs, so the content often over-the-top in terms of quality. It’s definitely worth checking out if you are interested in cloud computing.
Bottom line: During previous quarterly earnings calls Oracle has often said they see cloud computing as an aberration and a business that could not scale to profitability. Not wanting to leave any money on the table with enterprise accounts, Oracle gets cloud religion just in time to upsell servers, services and infrastructure. Larry’s favorite cloud color is currency green.
There are an outstanding series of videos sponsored by the Stanford Technology Ventures Program. One in particular is outstanding in the area of early adopter’s contributions to a start-up trying to sell software over the Internet. It features Eric Ries, co-founder and CTO of IMVU, best-selling author and board member for several companies.
