On May 22nd of this year in New York, MIT sponsored an Enterprise Forum dedicated to SaaS and Cloud Computing.

Peter Coffee, Director of Platform Research at Salesforce.com and former Technology Editor of eWEEK, spoke at the event. During his speech shown below he provides an overview of cloud computing’s technological foundation, the approaches and strategies used by enterprises building applications on this platform, and how Salesforce.com has concentrated on scalability as a design goal by concentrating their efforts on Application Programmer Interfaces (APIs).

Mr. Coffee is involved with developer evangelism with Salesforce.com, and his presentation provides insights into how the Force.com platform has been purpose-built to allow for developer independence across a variety of programming languages.

Bottom line: The following video provides a topical, informative and useful update on the cloud computing landscape; it’s worth the 30 minutes to listen to and consider how rapid the development platforms are maturing.
